Old history of Malaysia isn't very known, for absence of archaeological rests. It was divided in states separated by fluvial valleys.
The first kingdom known was Kedah, according to the Chinese and Sanskrit sources from the VIIth century BCE. After, in the XIIIth century the Muslims arrived, being Malacca a centre of Islamic expansion. The Portuguese arrived in 1511, and the Dutch in 1641.

During the XVIIth century five sultanates minted coins: Johor, Perak, Pahang, Kelantan and Kedah. Two centuries after, the next were Terengganu, Perlis, Selangor, Negri Sembilan and Penang.

Between 1527-1800 a big variety of tin coins was minted, in special with broken pyramids, several floral and animal forms.

This piece is a tin rooster, with origin in Kedah. Minted in the ruler of the sultan Muhammad Jiwa Abidin Muazzam Shah, between 1710-1773.
